Connor busted out of the hospital today. We are amazed at the success of the surgery. Had we done the operation the traditional open way, Connor would have been in the hospital for up to 3 weeks. With this new method, we were out in just days! We will be here in Chicago until at least Wednesday when he has a follow-up.
Connor started eating on Tuesday night and has done fairly well. His throat is still sore and he refrains from swallowing as much as possible, so he has a constant stream of drool running out of his mouth. He also coughs quite a bit as the saliva pools up in the back of his throat. A bit gross, but as he continues to heal and the soreness subsides, he should start to swallow again.
Connor is also working on his speaking. We knew going into the surgery that his voice quality may be compromised, but the doctor did not have any doubt that he wouldn't be able to speak. So right now he can still say some words at certain pitches, but his voice is fairly quiet right now and his cry is still silent. We hope as he continues to heal that it will get better. With his last operation it took a few days for him to got his voice back. So we are hopeful.
