Connor had the lateralization surgery this morning and the operation was very successfull. The doctors said they couldn't expect anything better. In pulling back the vocal cord she was able to approximately double his airway. He already has less stridor and his average number of respirations is lower. So he is not working as hard as he did before.
He is however in a notable amount of pain right now and is not a happy camper. His throat is very sore and they had to make a small one inch incision on the outside of his neck that is very tender as well. He also has no voice and can not make any sound, but the doctors are optimistic that as the swelling goes down he will have a voice, it will just not be as strong as it was before. The swelling and pain should subside in the next few days and he will be able to experience the benefits of a larger opening of his airway.
We will keep you updated on his progress.
